WAHU SURFER GROMS COMP - GOLD COAST

Gold Coast, Queensland, Sunday, 11th December 2011: IT was all systems go on day-two of the Wahu Surfer Groms Comp – Gold Coast, with champions crowned across all divisions in pumping 1.0m conditions at Palm Beach (Qld).
Snapper Rocks Surfrider Keanu Miller (Tweed Heads, NSW) added another feather to his cap today, taking out the U/11 Boys division.
Throwing caution to the wind, Miller posted a combined two-wave heat score of 13.50 (out of a possible 20) to leap frog Eli Carr (Crescent Head, NSW – 8.90 points), Kaya Horne (Burleigh Heads, Qld – 8.60 points) and Kai Dobbyn (Palm Beach, Qld – 6.76 points).
Angourie’s (NSW) Chris Zaffis couldn’t hide his excitement posting big scores to dominate the blue ribbon U/15 Boys division.
The young natural footer (left foot forward) went from strength to strength in the final, posting a near perfect single wave score of 9.27 (out of a possible 10) to shit out Lennox Head’s (NSW) Jake Snellgrove (10.33 points) with Kirra Green (Coolum Beach, Qld – 10.23 points) and Luke Gyory (Kingscliff, NSW – 9.54 points) finishing third and fourth respectively.
Meanwhile, Grommet-extraordinaire Josh Grange (Burleigh Heads, Qld – 16.60 points) continued his great form from day-one, bagging a win in the U/9 Boys Parent Assist division.
Grange defeated fellow competitors Joel Vaughan (Bateau Bay, NSW – 13.04 points) Lennox Chell (Avoca, NSW – 11.07 points) and 6-year-old Jesse Parkinson (Yaroomba, Qld – 10.53 points) who finished second to fourth respectively.

While there was some serious competition planned, the main objective of the event was to get kids active and having fun.
