Quiksilver Pro show rocks Duranbah Beach
Saturday 7th March at Duranbah Beach – Gold Coast: A sold-out crowd of 4,400 fun loving revellers have partied their way into the night at this year’s Quiksilver Pro Show.
Now in its third year, the Quiksilver Pro Show continues to make its way as Australia’s leading music festival that’s rooted in surf culture.
Presented in conjunction with the Quiksilver Pro presented by LG Mobile at Snapper Rocks, this year’s line up featured one of the country's hottest line-ups of hip hop, roots, rock & electro beats.
Punters of all ages enjoyed three stages of varied music which included solo bluesman Ash Grunwald, New Zealand’s dub reggae sensations Kora and Kram, Spiderbait’s iconic frontman, who blitzed the crowd with his electric performance and showcased tracks from his new solo record ‘Mixtape’
The days festivities kicked off at 2pm with a set from local pop-rock outfit Big Book Fantasy, who were added to the bill via way of a sponsorship through the Gold Coast City Council’s A-Venue music development program. Acts that followed included Brisbane’s John Steel Singers, the electro/dance hits of Dukes Of Windsor and local hip hop heavyweights Winnie Coopers.
Currently on hiatus from his band The Beautiful Girls, Mat McHugh introduced new songs from his recent solo record, and favourites on the national festival circuit, Something With Numbers, showed why they have become one of Australia’s in demand acts, giving the fans a 45 minute blast of high energy rock.
The highlight of the night was an extended set by ARIA award winners and the current kings of Australian hip hop, Bliss N Eso.
In a performance that represented a cross section of tracks from a career spanning three well received albums, the Sydney three-piece wowed the sell out crowd that included several pro surfers enjoying the action side of stage, taking in the atmosphere on a well deserved night off while competing in the Quiksilver Pro presented by LG Mobile.
St John Ambulance representatives treated approximately 39 patrons for ailments such as headaches, dehydration and sunscreen requests.
The Tweed Police officer on duty at the event indicated that they were pleased with the management of the event and the standard of crowd behaviour in general.
